The Calabrian airport management company, managing body of Crotone, Lamezia Terme and Reggio Calabria airports, is a joint stock company. In March 2022, following a deed of sale, the majority private shareholder transferred the entire stake to Fincalabra spa, an in-house company of the Calabria Region. As a result of this acquisition, 87.75% of the shares are held by public entities and the remaining 12.25% by private investors.

As an Airport Operator, SACAL coordinates and manages the airports, plans and coordinates the infrastructural development of the three airports, takes care of maintenance and cleaning; manages security checks on departing passengers, parking areas and the supply of commercial and advertising services through concession to third parties.

Taken over Consaer (a consortium established in 1965 for the construction and management of the new Calabrian airport) in 1990. SACAL S.p.a. allowed the Airport of Lamezia Terme to become the largest and most important airport in Calabria: in a few years, as a matter of fact, air traffic increases, the terminal is renovated and made more functional and comfortable. In 2009 the Company obtained the Total Management concession for a period of forty years and the Certification of ground assistance service provider (Handler) for passengers, aircrafts and baggage.

Subsequently, in 2016, SACAL participated in the invitation to public tender announced by ENAC for the management of the Airport of Crotone Sant’Anna and the Airport of Reggio Calabria Tito Minniti. In 2017, it was awarded the thirty-year Total Management the Airports of Crotone and Reggio Calabria.
