Before you leave

Security Checks

After completing check-in operations, in order to enter the boarding area, it is necessary to go through security checks at the appropriate stations equipped with metal detectors for passenger screening and radiogenic equipment for hand luggage screening. To do so, it is essential to show your boarding pass and deposit coats, jackets, keys, purses, belts, buckles, metal objects, cell phones, tablets, and personal computers in the appropriate trays.

Only a small amount of liquids (creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, sprays, shaving foams, deodorants, gels, paste substances, toothpastes) may be carried in carry-on baggage in containers each with a maximum capacity of 100 milliliters or equivalent size (100 grams), which must be placed in transparent, re-sealable plastic bags (maximum capacity of 1 liter) and presented for screening separately from the rest of the baggage.

In addition, it is permitted to carry baby food, medicines in liquid form and syringes as long as they are accompanied by the relevant prescription.

Objects that may constitute improper weapons (e.g., scissors, knives, metal files, box cutters, screwdrivers, chisels) regardless of size are not allowed on or in carry-on baggage.

To reduce the waiting time at security checkpoints, maximum cooperation from passengers is requested. The current European regulations are mandatory, so security officers are obliged to apply them.

Customs formalities

Passenger’s personal effects: Passengers departing to countries outside Europe may carry photographic equipment, video cameras, personal computers, watches, provided they are accompanied by a receipt of purchase. In the absence of such documents, it is advisable to produce, at the customs office of departure, a declaration of possession to be shown upon return.

Currency Transportation: Passengers coming from or departing to countries outside the European Union may carry cash or assimilated values if the total amounts are less than โ‚ฌ10,000. Above this amount, they are obliged to fill out a declaration, to be signed and filed exclusively at customs offices upon entering or leaving the state. Failure to make a declaration constitutes a violation of currency regulations and carries a penalty.

For more details on customs formalities you can consult the “Traveler’s Customs Card” at https://www.adm.gov.it

Health Formalities

Passengers intending to visit certain destinations should document their compulsory vaccinations against specific diseases. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with your attending physician at least 4-6 weeks before departure.

Some states, for example, require travelers to provide certification that they are negative for antibodies to the AIDS virus (HIV) as a condition for entry to their territory, or a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (Anti-Amharillic Vaccination).

If you decide to travel to Europe, you must carry the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which entitles you, in the countries of the European Community and Switzerland, to free health care, i.e., in case of need, to enjoy the same benefits (medical examinations, hospitalization, etc.) provided for citizens of the country visited.
